      Challenges Facing Higher Education in the Twenty-First Century Ami Zusman The twenty-first century has brought with it profound challenges to the nature, values, and control of higher education in the United States. Societal expectations and public resources for higher education are undergoing fundamental shifts. The CAUSE Current Issues Committee is responsible for proposing a list of current or developing issues and trends that are important to the future of information resources management and use in higher education. The following topics have been identified by the committee as key emerging or ongoing issues.

      Colleges used to be for the elites only but now student bodies are no longer composed of primarily male, white students. Some estimates show that half of America’s current workforce now passes through college first and 75 percent of students in high school spend at least some time studying in a higher education setting.   Since nearly every institution of higher education has a division of student affairs within its organizational structure this book is relevant to every campus in the United States.
